Being one of series of events celebrating death anniversary
of Hung Kings, in the morning of April 7th, at temple of Hung Vuong
– Mau Cuu Thien (No 12 Bach Dang Street, ward 5, Vung Tau city), ‘Banh Chung’
(sticky rice cake of Vietnamese) making contest was organized on this occasion
At the contest, 17 teams (4 contestants/ team) coming from
wards and communes of Vung Tau city competed to make 20 ‘Banh chung’ within 60
minutes. The cake must be made according to traditional square shape and weight
1.5 kg after boiled.
The contest took place in 2 days April 7th and 8th.
On April 7th, Organizing Board graded the team according to the cake
wrapping and food safety and hygiene. On April 8th, examiners will
mark the pattern, quality and announce the winner.
The contest was held to honor the traditional culture, to educate
patriotic tradition and moral philosophy “When you eat a fruit, think of the
man who planted the tree” which proved deep gratefulness to Hung Kings who had
founded and defense the country. The contest was also the chance to promote and
popularize the traditional culture, image of people and homeland of ancestral
land towards internal and foreign tourists.
